About the Artwork

Title: Botten upp (english: Bottom up)

In the spring of 2021, the Art Collective UGGLAN started the artistic research project "Botten Upp" with biological, artistic, spiritual and visual research for the good of the lake of Vättern, one of Sweden's largest lakes. The project is part of Österängens Konsthall's project "Rätten till Vättern" (The right to Vättern). As part of this, the UGGLAN Art Collective set out in June on an expedition around, through and down Lake Vättern. An artistic-scientific expedition with camping stations at different stations all around the lake, a radio channel and several exhibitions.

The expedition set up a final camp in Vadstena. At Magasin 19 – Vadstena's free art gallery was shown:

The expedition's full-scale base camp for exploring the expedition's research work with equipment, instruments, craft and utensils.

Glimpses into different phases of the artistic process.

As a complement to this, documentation, findings and discoveries made during the trip.

About the Artist(s)

The cultural network Ugglan (The Owl) is an artist collective in the Swedish city of Vadstena. The Owl exists for everyone, for the people. We are individual artists but often create platforms for everyone to express themselves in. The Owl's task is to share art and cultural expressions in society. To spread freedom, creativity and courage. The public space has become our arena, but also overlooked and lost places, hidden rooms. We seek out the locations and create. Art, music, theatre, poetry, paintings, sculptures or other cultural expressions. We are playful, unpretentious, guided by desire. Our art is anarchistic, including and democratic.
